The main purpose of filters is to prevent unwanted debris and other material from entering the working parts of the engine. Particulates and other material which enter the engine have the potential to damage the engine or, at the very least, reduce its efficiency. Poor engine performance, including increased fuel consumption, reduced power and work output, result from irregular servicing, and this is a progressive downhill path. Ultimately, if your filter fails, the particulates it has been trapping can enter your engine, resulting in damage which is expensive to put right – costing many times more than any savings made by not changing the filter. Replacing filters is vital. They are your engine’s first line of defense against contaminants.
